Our day is the perfect way to explore the southern part of Crete with mountains and gorges to beautiful palmbeaches.
Our journey starts as we head towards the wilderness and high altitudes where you have a helicopter view of one of the magnificent gorges and a chance to see the vultures, which are now an endangered species. We pass through small traditional villages full of character and interest where we make a brief stop for our guests to take photos of the beautiful scenery at the Potamon Dam. From here we make the short journey to Patsos Gorge with its imposing rock faces and interesting features, whilst here we have time to enjoy a coffee and sample thelocal drink, Raki.
Everyone will be impressed with the village of Spili. This is most famous for its spring water, over 50 lion head fountains have cold mountain water running all year round. The journey continues on along dirt tracks and bumpy roads passing through villages, where time has virtually stood still. After the village of Kerame our guests can see the panoramic view of the southern Cretan coast and the Libyan sea. Having spent the morning getting dusty and dirty, a swim at Preveli Beach will be very welcomed!!! (Please be aware that walking shoes are needed to reach the beach)
Preveli is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Its tall palm trees and crystal clear water were even chosen to advertise Bacardi on television it is the only beach where guests can swim in cold mountain water or ocean water in the same place. Working up an appetite, walking back from the beach we stop for a traditional Cretan meal with unlimited wine.
After lunch, we start the climb back up into the mountains for more dramatic scenery, and more photos as we drive through the Kourtaliotiko Gorge.
This is a day full of many surprises. The excitement is second to none!!! You certainly won’t forget your fun day out with SAFARI CLUB.

Combine the highest mountains of the island with traditional villages, caves, plateaus, vineyards, mythology, and the local life here in Crete.
Starting our journey from Gazi we head to the village of Krousonas where we have the opportunity to taste local products such as Olive Oil and Raki. Here we have free time for a coffee to relax and enjoy the stunning views. Continuing our journey towards Livadi Plateau we see some of the many apple orchards in the area and without doubt meet some friendly local goats. As we head to our next stop of the Nida Plateau the highest point of our day, with views of the highest mountain ‘Psiloritis’ which is capped with snow most of the year. You will hear tales of the Resistance and Crete’s checkered history with a visit of a very unusual monument and a traditional Shepherds ‘mitato’ where the cheese was made. Our next highlight is a visit to the Ideon Andron cave, where mythology states that Zeus took refuge here and escaped death.
Building up an appetite we make our way to the famous village of Anogeia where we have a delicious BBQ lunch with unlimited wine (vegetarian option available). Once refreshed go for a short walk where you can visit the center of Anogeia. Before we slowly make our journey back off road to the home of El Greco which is the village of Fodele where you have the chance to relax before we are heading homewards.
