PROGRAM

🫒 Stop 1: RIZA Olive Mill – Koxari Village (Duration: ~45 min)
You start where Crete’s identity is rooted—in olive oil. This is a working olive mill, not a staged visit. You’ll walk through the production area, see how olives are processed with modern cold extraction methods, and understand what separates average oil from proper extra virgin. Expect a short but clear explanation of harvesting, pressing, and storage.
✔️ Olive oil tasting with guidance (how to smell, taste, and recognize quality)
✔️ Insight into local varieties and seasonal production
✔️ Opportunity to purchase directly from the source

🦜 Stop 2: Amazonas Park (Duration: ~1 hour)
A gentle stop, especially appreciated by families. The park hosts a collection of rescued and exotic animals, mainly birds and small mammals. It’s not large, and that’s its strength—you can move at your own pace without crowds or pressure.
✔️ Walkable paths with close-up views of animals
✔️ Informal interaction with staff and feeding moments
✔️ Light, relaxed atmosphere before heading into the mountains

⛰️ Stop 3: Zeus Cave (Dikteon Cave) (Duration: ~1h 15min)
This is the most physically demanding part of the day. From the parking area, there is an uphill walk (approx. 15–20 minutes). You can walk or optionally use a donkey ride. Inside, the cave is cool, dim, and uneven underfoot—proper shoes matter.
✔️ Mythological significance: believed to be the birthplace of Zeus
✔️ Impressive stalactites and stalagmites
✔️ Time to explore at your own pace inside the cave
⚠️ Note: The path requires moderate fitness

🌾 Stop 4: Lasinthos Eco Park (Duration: ~15–30 min)
A practical look at traditional Cretan life. You’ll find small workshops (pottery, weaving, milling), local products, and people who actually work these crafts. It’s hands-on if you want it to be, or observational if you prefer to move quietly through.
✔️ Demonstrations of traditional techniques
✔️ Local products: herbs, textiles, ceramics
✔️ A chance to connect the landscape with livelihood

🍽️ Stop 5: Tzermiado Village – Free Time for Lunch (Duration: ~1h 15min)
No fixed restaurant, no set menu. You choose where and what to eat. Tzermiado is the heart of the plateau, with simple tavernas serving honest food—grilled meats, seasonal vegetables, local cheese, and wine.
✔️ Flexible time to relax and enjoy lunch
✔️ Recommendations provided on the spot if needed
✔️ Option for a short walk around the village after eating

🌳 Stop 6: Krasi Village (Duration: ~30–40 min)
The day slows down here. Krasi is small, quiet, and built around its central square. The highlight is the ancient plane tree—massive, shaded, and still very much alive. Nearby, the Venetian fountains run with cold spring water.
✔️ Short walk through the village center
✔️ Time to sit under the plane tree
✔️ A final pause before returning—no rush, no noise
